On Sunday September 21st, Baltimore City closed Interstate 83's north bound lanes to automobile traffic from Northern Parkway to the interstate's termination downtown.
Various city life organizations (like the city trails group) set up tents along the expressway. A particularly large group of tents, which included a bike rental stand, were concentrated at the North end of the route. (roughly across the river from Cross Keys)
I entered 83 at North Avenue, but quickly discovered that south bound traffic was still active. After a few corrections, I was on the correct side of the expressway and heading downtown.
At top speed, I rode roughly 40 mph under my normal driving speed. While I can not say I noticed details I'd never seen before, I certainly had more time to look at them. The Vernon pump station, a small castle like structure to the right of the 28th street entry ramp, was particularly interesting to see up close.
As is often the case with Baltimore City events, it was also interesting to see the kinds of people who attended. Be it on bikes, roller blades, skate boards, on foot, or with dogs, the population was predominately caucasian and appeared to be from the upper class.
Whether this disproportionate representation of the city's population (65% + african america) was due to the event being held during church hours, or due to the largely caucasian neighborhoods the interstate connects to, or that the event went largely unadvertised I do not know. Just another Baltimore curiosity…
Over all, the ride was enjoyable. The hills were not very taxing and it the wind was not especially aggressive. Considering how quick the ride felt (from nearly the county line into the heart of the city) I almost wish this was a regular commuting option.

Now that Floppies season 1 is complete, I'm working on our up-coming once a week cartoon series. Production is rolling along well enough. However, I haven't come up with a name for my current animation project.
I describe the show as "a drunken romp through current (geek) events, in a retro gaming like world, subject to constant and inexplicable disasters."
Quick! What words come to your mind?

Inside The Box is a series of interviews with game designers and publishers from the Origins Game Fair in 2008. Check back each Monday for a new episode, and every other week for an addition bonus episode.
